Ask a Ranger: What it's like to be a marine mammal ecologist at Point Reyes.

SFGATE: What’s one thing you wished everyone understood about Point Reyes that no one seems to get?

CODDE: I just wish people understood more about how their actions affect wildlife. A big thing that makes me sad is people running after birds or letting their dogs run after them. People don’t realize the effect this can have, how stressful it is for the birds. They need rest just like we do.

The consequences of wildlife disturbance are a big emphasis for me and for this park. We’re trying to pass on that message. I want people to enjoy Point Reyes and viewing the wildlife here, and to do it safely and responsibly.
