Traffic control on SFD while PG&E fixes power pole from accident last night.
Wow. Missed all the action last night. Sounds like someone ran into a power pole at White House Pool around 11pm and knocked all the power out for a couple of hours. Power back on in Inverness, everyone else have power? Any more details on the accident? Everyone ok? Thanks for all the reports.

A shark sighting at Stinson Beach yesterday (Sunday), "There were about 10 adults, myself included, who saw it! Just popped up out of nowhere. Fin came up twice then left. We had seen one seal and two porpoises about an hour earlier. It was about half a kid size soccer field from where we were standing, so very close. Only a handful of kids in shallow water and two surfers waiting for waves who scrambled to shore." (thx CP)
Vegetation fire at Seaheaven down by the bay. Under control now. Great response by fire dept.
Yikes. KWMR reporting: "Fire and park units are responding to a report of more than 30 kayakers stranded on Hog Island and Pelican Point. Some hypothermic patients are being brought to Nick's cove, water units heading to Pelican Point."
The Inverness Almanac Volume II release part is tomorrow night at 7pm at The Dance Palace. Local SF band Vetiver will be playing, and for those not familiar, these guys are really, really good. That alone is worth showing up for, a rare opportunity. Danny Vitali and The Gospel Flatters will play as well (they're good too!)
Finally! Lucas Valley Road has reopened.
Sounds like there is a small vegetation fire in the park right now, fire units responding, possibly by K Ranch.

Not one, but two cars went off the road at this spot above North Beach today. Holiday weekend! Since everyone was ok, how about a caption contest? (Thx JW)
Some notes from tonight's reading by Summer Brennan's "The Oyster War".
"My family is in the audience tonight, so please keep that in mind." - Summer
Summer read a chapter from the book which was about the fallow deer issue and nothing about oysters which seemed to confuse people.
"How could you be so presumptuous to say this is the true story?" - Bob Stevens. No real answer to that.
Kevin Lunny is in the audience which is interesting.
So far everything is fairly mellow, I don't think anyone is interested in arguing, Kate did a good job of setting that tone early.
Sarah Rolph asked if Summer had read some reports, Gordon Bennett asked if she knew who cut the names off some of the maps. She skimmed the reports and did not know who cut off the names.
Things are getting wild down at Perrys for the big anniversary celebration. Better get down there...
From Scott Morrow, General Manager of IPUD: "Due to several years of drought and diminished rainfall last year, the stream flows in our creeks are much lower than usual for this time of year. We are entering a challenging period. Until the next significant rains come, we all need to be mindful of our water use and conserve. The IPUD water system has a 425,000 gallon storage capacity. This translates into about 5-7 days of water storage for this time of year. Given the near term weather forecast of no significant rain, we are asking that all IPUD customers cut back on water use."
IPUD is the Inverness Public Utility District.
Summer Brennan will be reading from her book 'The Oyster Wars' at the Dance Palace this Thursday. The Point Reyes Light wrote a piece (op-ed? book review? news story?) about the book this week and said it had many inaccuracies. Corey Goodman previously had written a Huffpo blog with similar allegations Summer responded to these charges this week with her own blog post. If you're going to the reading, or reading the book in general, probably worth reviewing these posts:

The infamous Chronicle restaurant reviewer Michael Bauer comes back to town: "When I walked into Osteria Stellina in Point Reyes Station on a particularly warm summer evening, it was like entering a sauna. A few table fans worked futilely to circulate the leaden air, but it was clear the restaurant wasn't prepared for a heat wave. Yet that was of little consequence, because once the food started to arrive, it felt like an oasis in an otherwise mediocre dining area."http://www.sfchronicle.com/ent...
Breaking News Via Sheriff Doug Pittman: CHO Pursuit in West Marin (Nicasio - Lagunitas) leads to arrest of Wanted subject out of Sonoma County. Suspect Jason Brown, WMA, 43 years old out of Santa Rosa made the mistake of driving way to fast on Nicasio Road just north of Nicasio School. Brown took off from CHP Officer Will Thompson at speeds in excess of 100MPH passing construction workers, numerous other drivers over double yellow lines and speeding past both Nicasio Valley and Lagunitas Elementary Schools. Already wanted and on probation out of Sonoma County for Domestic Assault and Public Intoxication, he now faces numerous additional traffic, misdemeanor and felony violations for his disregard for everyone else's safety.

This is sad but inevitable. "For four decades, Nancy Hemmingway and Elizabeth Whitney have organized the annual Transbay Swim on the Sunday after Labor Day. This year, Ms. Whitney and Ms. Hemmingway say they are retiring the early-morning swim"”which, according to their count, drew over 100 people last year"”due to safety concerns as well as the fear that its homegrown character is vanishing. They are spreading word that the swim is cancelled, and are not providing the boats that accompany swimmers. You may have noticed that TWMF went on a six day 'no digital' cleanse, which we highly recommend. Upon our return three things caught our eye. 1) The park is up to something out at the light house 2) A mountain lion was spotted in Lagunitas (thx RW) 3) Local biotech entrepreneur Corey Goodman ripped into local author Summer Brennan's new book 'The Oyster Wars' on HuffPo and all hell broke out in the comment section. In the two decades since the Straus Dairy in Marshall was the first in the West to become certified organic, most others in the region have followed, creating a cash cow that gets bigger every year. With 25 of Marin's 29 dairies now organic, the value of organic milk production is soaring, rocketing 61 percent last year to $33.6 million for the milk product equivalent of about 12.6 million gallons. At the same time, the value of conventional milk production in Marin plummeted 57 percent to $5.7 million in 2014.http://www.marinij.com/busines...

Fascinating article about air traffic over Point Reyes: "That's because the new system is effectively steering jetliners onto new superhighways in the sky. These new aerial freeways are concentrating commercial jet flights over certain areas "” including Point Reyes National Seashore "” that are now being forced to shoulder disproportionate levels of noise pollution."
"You would not build a freeway offramp in Point Reyes National Seashore," said Michael McEneany, a resident of Inverness, a small town adjacent to Point Reyes. "So why on God's green earth would you propose building an aerial freeway right through the middle of the wilderness area? It's absurd."

David Clarkson, who owns Point Reyes Jewelry Store, posted this letter on The West Marin Commons and I asked him if I could re-publish it because it is such a positive response in the face of an ugly incident. And it made me smile, poor Diamond.
You have probably heard that I was robbed at gunpoint in my shop on Saturday morning about 11 o'clock. Three youngish, 30-year-old maybe, white males. One pointed a gun at me, another one handcuffed me and duct taped my legs and put me in my shop office while they helped themselves to everything I have worked for many years. I am not hurt except for some bruises and swollen wrists from the handcuffs. As you can imagine, it was kind of traumatic although I was calm throughout. I found out that Diamond, my little Jack Russell terrier, will not defend me, at least not in this sort of situation. Right now, seven hours later, I guess I am in a little bit of a state of shock. Don't quite know what to do with myself. They took my cell phone, keys, wallet, Etc.. So I am lost without a few important data points in my life.
I'm telling you this now so that I won't have to tell the story over and over on the street. I will appreciate your concern and by all means, express your sympathy but please remember that I don't want to go over it with everyone. Thank you, I will appreciate that.
I am definitely not "ruined" although this is definitely a setback. But it is a heads up to all of you that our lovely little community is on the map. Not a good map to be on.
Good luck to us all, as Sandy Westrom used to say. It's a good phrase.

BREAKING - Marin County Sheriff - June 13, 2015 - Point Reyes Jewelry Store Robbed by Three Suspects On June 13, 2015 at about 11:16 AM, Marin County Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to a possible robbery at Point Reyes Jewelry located at 11101 Shoreline Hwy.Pt. Reyes Station. Upon arrival, deputies contacted the store owner and confirmed he was robbed by three men, one of which was armed. The victim stated that a white male entered the store and asked to look at some diamonds. Several minutes later two additional white males entered the store. One of the suspects pointed a black semi-automatic handgun at the victim and ordered him into a back room. The suspects used duct tape to bind the victim's hands and feet then took his cell phone, jewelry from several display cases and the safe. After approximately 20-30 minutes the victim was able to attract the attention of a gentleman who came into the store and freed the victim. At approximately 12:50 PM evidence linked to the jewelry store was located in a trash can at the Shell gas station located at 834 Irwin St. San Rafael. All three suspects were described as white males in their 20s between 5 -6 and 5-9 tall. Persons wishing to give crime tips are encouraged to call the Sheriff's Office at 415-479-2311. To remain anonymous and possibly become eligible for a cash reward call Bay Area Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS. (Thx PD)

Summer Brennan presents an interesting perspective on the Sheriff's calls, curious to hear what others think, "Brennan, who spent five months reporting for the Light in 2012, also told a story about her grandmother, whose death in 1997 followed a long and painful illness; the death was reported in the Sheriff's Calls. "There it was, between humorous anecdotes about escaped cows and neighborly squabbles," Brennan wrote. "I felt something like a rock falling in my heart to see it there, presented as entertainment. I felt sad and exposed. I wished fervently that it hadn't been included. No one had asked us.""http://www.slate.com/articles/...

"A man who was abalone diving with four other men died in Tomales Bay Tuesday morning, a National Park Service spokesman said. The men began CPR and eventually called for help, Dell'Osso said. They got the stricken diver back in the boat and brought him to Lawson's Landing. Marin County paramedics continued resuscitation efforts, but the diver was pronounced dead."http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.c...

This is nice, and at the same time very sad. Libraries should be open all day, seven days a week. "Bolinas, Stinson Beach and Inverness branches no longer closed for lunch. Thanks to funding from a tax measure, the Marin County Free Library (MCFL) has expanded hours at three West Marin branches, marking the first time in the 87-year MCFL history that the branches will stay open for a full day of service."http://www.marincounty.org/mai...
