The WMF Facebook Feed
The West Marin Feed gained traction as a Facebook page and many of the local followers still find it there. Times have changed and Twitter has taken over as a better news medium, but WMF still posts on Facebook at least two or three times a week.

The best part about Facebook (if there is one) is that there is a lot of really good information that people are able to add to stories in the comments. Unfortunately, you have to go to the Facebook post itself to see these comments, they cannot be imported onto this feed.

Another tragic story. The beaches are dangerous. "On Saturday, May 04, 2019, at approximately 10:54 AM, 9-1-1- was contacted reporting a male subject, who had been fishing with friends in the area of South Beach, inside the Point Reyes National Seashore-West Marin, had possibly drowned. Reportedly the subject was digging for sand crabs alone on the beach with his back facing the water when he was presumably struck by a wave, which knocked the subject into the water. The subject did not have a personal flotation device (PFD) in place and had been wearing bib-style fishing waders, which filled with water preventing his return to the shoreline. The subject's friends having returned to the beach from the parking area a short time later, discovered the subject floating face down unresponsive in the surf. Attempts to rescue the subject met with negative results. A United States Coast Guard (USCG) helicopter in the area completing unrelated training was immediately diverted to the scene in addition to other multiple First Responder agency personnel to render aid and complete a rescue of the subject. A USCG Rescue Swimmer was deployed from the helicopter and brought the subject to the shoreline, who remained unconscious and lifeless. Emergent resuscitative medical aid including CPR was immediately administered. Due to the remote area, the subject was then airlifted to the Point Reyes Beach South Parking area, where the subject was met by awaiting paramedics. Paramedics provided additional resuscitative medical aid to no avail. Despite the aforementioned efforts, the subject's death was pronounced on the scene at 12:04 PM." From SFGate: "Christina Milne was driving along a road near the Nicasio Reservoir in West Marin Thursday when she saw a pickup truck pulled over with its flashers on, the driver waving for help. She pulled over and discovered the man had struck and killed a mother deer by mistake, only to discover her two newborn babies by the side of the road, still alive. The two fawns had been born so recently their umbilical cords were still wet, according to wildlife rescue organization WildCare. The fawns were taken to WildCare's wildlife hospital in San Rafael and given a full body exam, fluids, and blankets, to counteract shock. WildCare asks that people take care while driving and alert their hotline at 415-456-7283 should you see injured wildlife or potentially orphaned baby animals around the Bay Area." The Point Reyes National Seashore announced this weekend that the new Point Reyes lighthouse restoration will include a Shake Shack restaurant. In an effort to expand revenue streams for the park and provide more food options for visitors, the park cut a deal with the extremely popular fast food company after months of negotiations. The location will be down at the point right next to the lighthouse and will become the crown jewel of the Shake Shack westward expansion.

"We couldn't be more pleased," announced a park spokesperson, "the lighthouse is the most visited spot in the park and now we've teamed up with one of the most popular food establishments in the country. Imagine how incredible it will be to hike down the stairs to our newly renovated lighthouse and be able to enjoy an amazing chocolate shake and a tasty hamburger with one of the greatest views in the world."

The menu at the Shake Shack will be very similar to other locations around the country, including the newly opened location in Larkspur. Because of the uniqueness of this location, there will however be daily specials suited to the region like deep fried oysters, organic elephant seal shakes and free range elk burgers, all locally sourced. "We're still working out the details," the park spokesperson said, "but once we get it all sorted, it will be a big win win for everyone."

Access from parking lot to the observation deck and the Shake Shack will be ready by late May/early June.

The recent car fire in Inverness on Ottinger's Hill on SFD was not an accident it turns out. If you are having suicidal thoughts, there is always someone willing to talk at 1-800-273-8255.

"After talking with the driver, however, deputies learned he was recently unemployed and "trying to navigate a rough patch in his life. His vehicle catching fire was no accident, but rather an attempt to take his own life," deputies said.
