The WMF Facebook Feed
The West Marin Feed gained traction as a Facebook page and many of the local followers still find it there. Times have changed and Twitter has taken over as a better news medium, but WMF still posts on Facebook at least two or three times a week.

The best part about Facebook (if there is one) is that there is a lot of really good information that people are able to add to stories in the comments. Unfortunately, you have to go to the Facebook post itself to see these comments, they cannot be imported onto this feed.

"Marin waste management officials expect the sale of a major North Bay garbage hauler to have little effect on services in Novato and West Marin where the company holds franchises. Late last month, the Santa Rosa-based Ratto Group agreed to sell off its waste and recycling operations to Recology, a San Francisco company. Ratto Group handles garbage and recycling services for eight of Sonoma County's nine cities as well as services in Novato and West Marin. In West Marin, the county's Waste Management Division overseas the Ratto Group franchise Redwood Empire Disposal, a company Ratto co-founded in the 1960s." From Marin IJ: "The Marin County Board of Supervisors passed an ordinance that could mean new restrictions on vehicle dwellers.

The ordinance imposes no new parking rules immediately, but it gives supervisors the ability to do so in future by resolution. The new rules could be tailored by neighborhood or even by street to address complaints of people living in their vehicles or parking oversized vehicles.

The ordinance gives supervisors the option of banning parking at all times; banning all overnight parking; banning overnight parking of all vehicles except cars, motorcycles and pickups; or banning overnight parking of "oversized, commercial vehicles."

Violators could be subject to a $100 fine for each overnight violation.

Several residents of Point Reyes Station, however, said some people living in their vehicles there have become a big problem.

Marty Knapp of Point Reyes Station said, "A group of people have started living adjacent to the Giacomini wetland in vans, cars and motor homes. There are human feces migrating into the county trash can from people who are living on the street."

Tom Quinn of Point Reyes Station said his community's quality of life has been stolen by an invasion of large tour buses and a "rolling slum of homeless" who have moved in.

"This new slum is made up of vagrants and transients," Quinn said. "Some of them are mentally unstable, some are staggering drunks, thieves, vandals, needle queens and serious environmental polluters.""

Expect the planes to be back on Sunday. "Five C-17 Globemaster III transport jets took off Saturday morning from Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield to practice in-flight refueling and formation flying, said Technical Sgt. John Ayre, a spokesman at Travis. Crews from the South Carolina base where the C-17s are based were in the Bay Area to collaborate with California-based pilots and train together. It appears they did some training over the coastline and then took a non-standard route, Ayre said. The torrential downpours and flooding we've seen lately might be good for the parched, drought-stricken lands of California, but it's disastrous for endangered salmon. In the North Bay, creeks are muddy and swirling, raging torrents that destroy neatly-laid salmon eggs and provide no shelter for salmon coming in to spawn. "We have eggs that were just recently laid in Lagunitas Creek and other tributaries which have gotten washed away," said Eric Ettlinger, Aquatic Ecologist with the Marin Municipal Water District. "We also have fish prepared to go into the ocean which hatched a year ago, and they are struggling to find refuge from the high flows. LINK: "http://www.sfgate.com/news/art...
