The WMF Facebook Feed
The West Marin Feed gained traction as a Facebook page and many of the local followers still find it there. Times have changed and Twitter has taken over as a better news medium, but WMF still posts on Facebook at least two or three times a week.

The best part about Facebook (if there is one) is that there is a lot of really good information that people are able to add to stories in the comments. Unfortunately, you have to go to the Facebook post itself to see these comments, they cannot be imported onto this feed.

 Friday, June 3 ,2016 at 4:06pm
Western Weekend is upon us. Saturday: Barn Dance at Tobys and The Haggards at The Western. Sunday: Parade. From the Point Reyes Light, "Last month, the West Marin Lions Club announced that it would nix the crown competition and instead select a Junior Grand Marshal. The change is an effort to make the program gender-neutral and more community-service oriented in a bid to create more fairness and draw more contestants." Nice. Signs, signs, everywhere signs. "Candidates for District 4 supervisor hoping to broadcast their names and messages have picketed West Marin in recent months with a flurry of political signs, many of which violate county and state rules that prohibit signs in rights of way. Some candidates reason that the illegal placement of signs is an unfortunate byproduct of a campaign machine that has unleashed a follow-the-pack political mentality. "Everyone's been doing it. If everybody's doing it, I'm going to do it," said Wendi Kallins, of Forest Knolls." FULL STORY: http://www.ptreyeslight.com/ar... (photo by Beau Evans/Point Reyes Light)

"Point Reyes Station will welcome a newcomer to its ranks this summer, with the addition of Blue Heron BBQ. Behind the casual barbecue spot is Sheryl Cahill, owner of the Station House Café, located just around the corner. Blue Heron takes over the former location of the Pine Cone Diner, which closed last fall after 19 years in business. Now it will offer low-key, "West Coast-style" barbecue to the locals and many tourists who stream through the small West Marin town." FULL STORY: http://sf.eater.com/2016/5/20/...

Green Bridge Update

The Strategic Working Group (SWG) was formed in order to incorporate community input in developing and refining the range of alternatives for replacement of the existing Green Bridge prior to the development of the Draft Environmental Review report. The SWG has met twice so far. On March 22nd Caltrans mailed a newsletter to local residents and businesses regarding some of the results of the meetings to date. Subsequent newsletters will include further information on the project.

If you would like to see this newsletter, and did not receive one, you can view it on the Caltrans project website athttp://www.dot.ca.gov/dist4/la...">http://www.dot.ca.gov/dist4/la...
Look for "Lagunitas Bridge Newsletter 3/21/16"

In addition, Meeting Summaries of the first two meetings of the Strategic Working Group will be posted shortly to this same website.

And, if you did not attend the October 14, 2015, Caltrans meeting at the Dance Palace, please read the poster boards available at that meeting as they contain lots of valuable information. They are also posted on the Caltrans project website. Look for "Oct 14th Meeting Materials."

Scary situation, great work by local fire crews. "Fire destroyed a home in the West Marin community of Inverness early Saturday morning, displacing residents without causing any injuries. At 4:39 a.m., an emergency caller described a structure fire with flames shooting out of a roof in the 500 block of Pierce Point Road, located in the Shallow Beach area north of Inverness and adjacent to Tomales Bay State Park. Sad news. That osprey nest on SFD as you go up Ottinger's Hill into the park that I took a picture of with two ospreys nesting in it WAS CUT DOWN today by PG&E and Davey Tree. An osprey was in the nest this morning before crews arrived. According to reports, PG&E claims they had property owner and USFWS approval and that the tree was in imminent danger of falling on power lines (despite having survived last two storms). But cutting a nest down when the birds are clearly nesting in it and possibly have eggs? That seems like a very bad decision, how is that not illegal? Anyone else know the rules?
