David Clarkson, who owns Point Reyes Jewelry Store, posted this letter on The West Marin Commons and I asked him if I could re-publish it because it is such a positive response in the face of an ugly incident. And it made me smile, poor Diamond.
"Hi everyone,
You have probably heard that I was robbed at gunpoint in my shop on Saturday morning about 11 o'clock. Three youngish, 30-year-old maybe, white males. One pointed a gun at me, another one handcuffed me and duct taped my legs and put me in my shop office while they helped themselves to everything I have worked for many years. I am not hurt except for some bruises and swollen wrists from the handcuffs. As you can imagine, it was kind of traumatic although I was calm throughout. I found out that Diamond, my little Jack Russell terrier, will not defend me, at least not in this sort of situation. Right now, seven hours later, I guess I am in a little bit of a state of shock. Don't quite know what to do with myself. They took my cell phone, keys, wallet, Etc.. So I am lost without a few important data points in my life.
I'm telling you this now so that I won't have to tell the story over and over on the street. I will appreciate your concern and by all means, express your sympathy but please remember that I don't want to go over it with everyone. Thank you, I will appreciate that.
I am definitely not "ruined" although this is definitely a setback. But it is a heads up to all of you that our lovely little community is on the map. Not a good map to be on.
Good luck to us all, as Sandy Westrom used to say. It's a good phrase.
David"
