The WMF Facebook Feed
The West Marin Feed gained traction as a Facebook page and many of the local followers still find it there. Times have changed and Twitter has taken over as a better news medium, but WMF still posts on Facebook at least two or three times a week.

The best part about Facebook (if there is one) is that there is a lot of really good information that people are able to add to stories in the comments. Unfortunately, you have to go to the Facebook post itself to see these comments, they cannot be imported onto this feed.

Went down town PR. It looked like a normal to heavier, rainy winter day to me...except businesses were closed, closing early etc. Is this due to the storm, or storm hype? Or is it just that the out of town "local" work force can't get here to run the town?

From Supervisor Susan Adams: URGENT ALERT: Prepare for high winds and rain

Nasty storm coming our way Wednesday and Thursday

The County has been out clearing and performing maintenance in anticipation of the winter storm season; it's time for all of us to secure our own space! Take a look around your home now to make sure your flashlights and batteries are working, you have water and emergency food, and that your gutters, drains and culverts are clean and working. Check drainage pipes, and trim precarious branches if you can. If you live near a storm drain, please help to make sure leaves are not covering the grate and that street gutters are clear. The coming storm is projected to bring heavy rain and wind, power outages are possible. Sounds like it will be wild out there with wind and rain! Remember to drive safely on Thursday, or better yet, if you don't have to be on the roads - stay home!

From Eric Ettlinger at MMWD Today at 9:51 AM

We've had an exciting couple of weeks on Lagunitas Creek with lots of both rain and fish. In that time we've received over eight inches of rain and Lagunitas Creek flows increased from 20 cubic feet per second to a peak of 1,800 cfs. During a break in the rain on Monday we observed 63 coho, 28 Chinook, and one a chum salmon.

The stats for the season so far include:
· 117 coho, 74 Chinook, and two chum salmon
· 24 coho redds (gravel nests), 20 Chinook redds, one chum redd, and nine redds we couldn't classify
Our coho observations are far above average for this early in December and we've already seen the second-highest number of Chinook recorded for the creek.

Not only have the numbers been unusual, but so have the interactions between salmon species. On Monday we saw a male chum salmon attempting to spawn with a female Chinook (see the photo here). This confused fish was driving off three male Chinook salmon and even biting and wounding the female, presumably because he occasionally mistook her for a male. These species can't hybridize, so hopefully the female Chinook survived the encounter and eventually spawned with her own kind. Male coho have also been seen attempting to spawn with female Chinook, maybe because these extra-large females are simply irresistible.

Today we observed salmon jumping through Roy's Pools (at the western edge of the San Geronimo Golf Course), at The Inkwells (the confluence of San Geronimo and Lagunitas Creeks), and spawning at the Leo T. Cronin Fish Viewing Area. We're hoping flows will recede enough to get into the creek on December 9, but if anyone sees salmon before then, particularly in Devil's Gulch and San Geronimo Creek, please share your observations in the comments section of this blog post: http://www.marinwater.org/blog.

The Citizen needs to rise to the level of basic jouralistic standards. It just plagerized Guy Kovner of the Press Democrat, character by character. Checked with him, he did not know they had done it or offer any permission to republish his writing. Example:

The plaintiffs' action does not need a judge's approval and while they technically have the right to renew their case in the future, Heather Bussing, an Occidental attorney and Empire College of Law instructor, said that was unlikely. "“ Press Democrat, Nov. 2, 2014
