The WMF Facebook Feed
The West Marin Feed gained traction as a Facebook page and many of the local followers still find it there. Times have changed and Twitter has taken over as a better news medium, but WMF still posts on Facebook at least two or three times a week.

The best part about Facebook (if there is one) is that there is a lot of really good information that people are able to add to stories in the comments. Unfortunately, you have to go to the Facebook post itself to see these comments, they cannot be imported onto this feed.

Has anyone seen a newer model red dodge charger seemingly parked or abandoned out here in West Marin. Car is believed to have new dealer paper license plates or even possibly an out of state license plate. Can't give specific details but I have a great interest in finding this car. Trust me, it doesn't belong out here...

Thanks,
Doug (your local Sheriff)

This is an urgent message. Liam got bit by a dog and it broke the skin. We don't know who the owner is but need to find her asap. There was a 50'ish couple walking near the barn in the Giacomini marsh at 7:30 tonight - the woman asked if Liam was okay but LIam didn't see the broken skin until he got home. His mom ran back and the couple was gone. The dog is a brown and white Austrailian Shepherd. The woman had short light brown hair and glasses, If you know who they are, please get in touch with Laughty, Ilie, or Peggy.

Point Reyes Wild is an exhibition and sale of landscape paintings of Point Reyes National Seashore by the BayWood Artists.
The show celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act passed by Congress in 1964 and is a fundraiser for Point Reyes National Seashore Association's mission

It is the result of a year-long effort by these accomplished plein air artists to depict some of the park's best-known landmarks and species, as well as special remote locations. The show opens with an artist reception and light refreshments at noon on Saturday, August 30 at the Red Barn Classroom and Art Galley at Point Reyes National Seashore. Admission is free.

Also as a part of this event, at the Yellow Commons house this weekend they are selling some of Carlos Porata's photographs.

Planned Feralhood must find a place to hold around 30 cats for two weeks, give or take a few days, in mid to late September. A portion of a barn, perhaps some stalls that could be fenced in would be good. We could kennel the cats individually, and/or let them have the room to roam inside the temporary enclosure. An outbuilding, garage, or fenced area that we could cat-proof are other possibilities. We would install, then remove any fencing materials; and do a complete clean up when we move back to our own digs.

Our current abode is going to be tented and then repaired. Our fencing will have to be pulled away from the house, and the cats will need safe refuge during the toxic tenting and repairs.

We could use help moving the cats and their supplies - large vehicles, pickup trucks or jeeps, etc., and manpower to carry everything down then back up 42 steps. Volunteers would be very appreciated.

If anyone can offer us a place, please contact Kathy at (415)663-8497, or plannedferalhood@gmail.com. Donations can be mailed to Planned Feralhood, PO Box 502, Point Reyes Station, CA 94956. We are currently filing for 501(c)(3) tax exempt status, and expect to be approved by the end of the year.

We are also looking for homes for 8 kittens. Please go to our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/plann... and see their pictures and stories.

The USGS said the probability of a strong and possibly damaging aftershock in the next seven days is 54 percent.

The last significant quake to shake Marin was a 5.0-magnitude temblor recorded in Bolinas on Aug. 17, 1999 along the San Andreas fault. It was the same segment that moved so powerfully in 1906.

A word of caution to my fellow West Marinites...Today marks the first day of school out here in West Marin, that said, I given direction to my deputies to provide a strong presence around our schools in the coming weeks. If you want to avoid a potential $600+ ticket all you have to do is drive 25MPH through our school zones.

Just remember, by the time you see a deputy and his/her radar gun pointed at you, its too late. I strongly suggest that if you have a desire to donate $600 to the government, give it directly to the schools where it is needed most.

Be Wise, Be Safe!

Meteors are flying in the skies tonight and tomorrow night. The bad news is that the bright supermoon is interfering with this year's 2014 Perseid display, washing out all but the brighter Perseid meteors on the peak nights of August 11-12 and August 12-13 (we give the nod to the night of August 12-13). The good news is that, according to NASA, the Perseids have more fireballs "“ or bright meteors "“ than any other annual meteor shower.
